Volunteers In Police Service
Enhancing Public Safety by Leveraging Resources
VIPS is a national organization managed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). It was founded in 2002 after 9/11. The purpose is to provide volunteer assistance to our Police Department by performing such duties as radar checks, vacation house checks, patrol car deliveries for maintenance, agency deliveries, and clerical tasks.
The Klamath Falls Chapter of VIPS started in November of 2013. The volunteers currently perform about 160 hours of service a month to the Klamath Falls Police Department.
The VIPS were recently awarded the United Way Public Service Volunteer Award for volunteering a total of 2612 hours in 2015.
